About Hume Township Organized in 1859 in Huron County, the township name was to honor it’s first settler, who operated a trading post near the mouth of the Pinnebog River, Walter Hume. Mr. Hume was often regarded as the “Daniel Boone” of the territory, as he lived and traded among the native Americans of the area. Port Crescent, once a booming port village, lies to the northern edge of the township and Kinde, a proud agricultural community is in the southeast portion of the township. Wesley Armstrong was named the first supervisor.
